Winters in Alberta, Canada, typically range between -5 to -15 degrees C (5 to 23 degrees F) and sometimes as low as -30 to -40 degrees C (-22 to -40 degrees F). But I am a coat, and I keep people warm.

While some may think that being a coat is a pretty utilitarian function, I must say that there is a great reward that comes with serving. While living in Canada with my friend Jey and her family, I found much joy in wrapping myself around Jey’s back and riding gently on her shoulders, covering her with warmth. Jey went outside with me often, and because of me, the winters were comfortable as she pursued her education and eventually married a pastor. You may wonder if I still look pretty. Yes, several years later, I still am, and I am as youthful as ever.

Recently, Jey and her pastor husband relocated to Washington state to oversee a congregation of believers. Then Beryl and Joe arrived to speak at their church. While visiting, a lovely family hosted Beryl and Joe. They invited Jey and her husband for lunch, too, on Sabbath. While at the table, the host family asked Beryl and Joe to share about their call to Greenland.

As soon as they finished sharing their testimony, Jey talked about me. She said, “Beryl, I still have boxes yet to unpack, but I have something that I will bring to you this evening. I hope you will find it useful. I wore it a long time ago when I was your size. Can you believe it?”

That evening, When Jey arrived at the host’s door, holding me in her arms, Beryl was excited to see me. She leaped from her chair to meet me and touch my soft and cozy body. I am a beautiful turquoise. I have two layers, one to protect Beryl from the rains and snow in Greenland, and the other that will really keep her warm. Jey then wrapped me around Beryl so that I would do for Beryl what I did for Jey.

Beryl, thank you for taking notice that I am a godsend. I am not coming alone. Jey included a couple of my friends — a pair of winter boots for your feet as you walk to meet people and share the love of Jesus. From Canada to the U.S. and off to Greenland, I am eager to keep a Kenyan girl warm. I hope you feel that warmth just by looking at me. When you wear me, remember this: “And my God shall supply ALL your needs!” You can believe that!
