I’ll Go For You

If you are uncomfortable about serving in missions because it’s overwhelming to think of leaving family, friends and conveniences…

If you are intimidated at the thought of immersing yourself in a culture and a language not your own…

If the idea of having to live on the generosity of others bothers your pride and grinds against your self-sufficiency…

If committing 3, 5 or 10 years of your life seems too extreme…

If you feel tied down to responsibilities of family, church, school or career…

That’s okay. I’ll go for you.

No one is pointing fingers to say that you’re not doing enough, but I will point out that there are nations filled with people who don’t know what the cross means, because they’ve never heard of the Savior who died for them. I’m single. I don’t have a family depending on me. I’ve quit my job. I am from the culture I am going to reach. I’ll go for you.

I don’t have thousands of dollars to put up billboards or flashy neon signs to draw your attention. I don’t have systems to send out ads to your home to entice you. I don’t offer fancy services like free two-day shipping or access to thousands of hours of entertaining video to lure your monthly payments. I can’t offer you status or techy convenience in the palm of your hand to entice you to open your wallet. But what I do offer is this: I’ll go for you.

I’ll go in the name of Jesus to raise up His standard in places so dark that the faintest glimmer of light will draw sin-worn hearts heavenward. You can send me to their homes, and I’ll serve them. I’ll do what I can to open their hearts and draw them into the eternal kingdom. And I’ll commit to stay there, not just for months, but for years to start friendships and help grow them into disciples of Jesus who will love Him and His word and know how to teach others to love and follow Him, too. And if they ask me, “Why did you leave everything to come here?” I’ll tell them, “Because there are many people who know the all-powerful, all-loving God, and they sent me to tell you about Him.”

So, please, for the sake of souls who in their inmost hearts want to know that there is a God who loves them, send me! The need is so overwhelming, God is willing to use a broken, unskilled messenger like me. I’m not going because I’m great at anything; I’m going because so few others are.

I won’t question your calling or ask if God really has called you to stay, but I will happily stand in the gap. I’ll go for you.
