Papua New Guinea is an island country in the South Pacific approximately the size of the state of California. However, with approximately 715 indigenous languages and more than 1200 dialects spoken, Papua New Guinea has many people groups which are isolated. The Gogodala are located in the lowlands of Western Province. They have no land connections with the outside world. Prior to the arrival of AFM missionaries, none of them had heard the truth of the gospel. Now, many Gogodala are excited to learn the truths about Jesus as taught in the Bible.
Laurie, our girls, and I have been called to immerse ourselves in this isolated people group for the purpose of sharing God’s love in ways that will reach their hearts. This will require language and culture learning.
Jesus told us that all people groups would hear the gospel before He would return. The Gogodala are just one small people group among so many around the world that need to hear the message. How will they hear except someone tells them (Romans 10:14)? Angels could do the work, but God has given humans the opportunity to share in the joy of saving souls. The only way this work is going to get done is for each one of us to become active in the ministry of Christ. Lately, I’ve been getting anxious for Jesus to come. What about you?
