Nothing to Fear

Upon receiving the long-awaited email from the Thai Adventist Mission stating that our visa application had been approved, it finally began to sink in. After a year and a half of preparation and fundraising, we would finally be leaving the States to start a new life and ministry in Thailand! As I pondered this reality, I thought about all the unanswered questions and unknown details we would have to confront. But, despite the uncertainty, I felt a quiet peace in my heart.

The last year and a half has been one of the most challenging yet spiritually enriching times of my life. Through fundraising and AFM summer training, I have been challenged as I have seen my weaknesses in comparison to the tasks before me. At the same time, I have been enriched as I watched the Lord work in ways that strengthened my faith and confidence in Him. As I look back, I stand in awe of how many things came together, how many providences worked in our favor, and how many times the Lord provided just what we needed in order to get us to this point. I feel like we have walked through the Red Sea, eaten the manna, drunk water from the rock, and are now standing on the borders of Canaan.

Yes, the future is uncertain, and there are questions I cannot answer, but if our past has taught us anything, it is that the Lord will be our guide. As we leave for Thailand to begin the next stage in our journey, pray that we will not forget the lessons we have been taught or the miracles we have seen.

“We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history” (Life Sketches, p. 196).
