Josue

Eleven-year-old Josue moved here from Togo to live with his older brother, one of our church members. Before he started coming to Sabbath School, he didn’t know anything about God. If you don’t know Josue well, your first impression might be that he is silly and just wants to mess around. But if you pay attention and listen to what he is really saying, a different picture emerges.

Josue has changed a lot in the past year since he has been coming to church and to Pathfinders. Last year when we did student week of prayer, he was there each morning for worship. He asked lots of questions about Jesus and God. He learned a great deal about who God is and how much He knows and loves him.

Recently, we studied in Sabbath School about how we need to be ready for Jesus to come and that only the children of God will go with Him to heaven. Josue started asking more questions. “How do we become the children of God? What do we have to do to be ready for the second coming of Christ?”

Sabbath School was too short and there were too many distractions to answer his deep questions, so I invited interested older kids to meet with me so I could explain to them how to become children of God. As I was telling them the story of the fall, how we had fallen under the power of Satan and how someone had to die for sin, Josue, who is a bit dramatic anyway, was totally enthralled and had a million questions. He oooohhhed and groaned as he heard that the wages of sin is death. He was ecstatic when I told them that God made a plan of salvation so people could come close to Him again, breaking the power of Satan. He was very surprised when I said that Jesus was both man and God’s son together.

Josue is very conscious of sin in his life, and he is very disturbed that he keeps on sinning even when he doesn’t want to. Please pray with me that he will accept God’s authority and trust in His power to save him from sin.
