Kiki to Croatia

We are going to do what? I didn’t like that my mom was talking to someone from AFM about becoming missionaries. I had heard them discussing that this might happen, but now she was actually talking to someone.

As time went on, the cold reality settled in. We were moving far away, leaving my home, my family, my friends, my toys, my dog and MY CAT! I loved my cat. I was very sad that I had to leave everything. Why couldn’t I just take her?

I begged my parents. They kept apologizing and saying no. I was starting to get frustrated—frustrated at everything, frustrated with this entire situation.

“Please, Mama, can I please take Kiki? I will spend all my money to take her.”

“Sophia,” my mom sighed, “Why don’t you pray about it?”

So I silently started praying that we could take my three-year-old cat, Kiki, to Croatia.

One afternoon, a couple of weeks later, my mom picked me up from school and asked, “Hey Sophia, what is the one thing you want more than anything?”

I looked at her, confused, then slowly answered, “For Kiki to go to Croatia.”

“I think God answered your prayers today.”

My mom explained that during her Zoom call that day, the cat started meowing just as Erin asked what she could pray about. My mom described the situation to Erin, who checked to see if it was possible. She then encouraged my mom to take the cat. Mom later contacted the other missionaries in Croatia and found that they had taken their cat, too. She said she felt that God was yelling, “YOU’RE TAKING THE CAT!”

I was in shock. I couldn’t believe it. God was letting me take Kiki. He cared about me, and I was willing to go wherever He called us.
