Lessons Learned at AFM SM Training #1

“In order to be good at something, you have to be willing to start out bad.”
One of my major goals going overseas again as an AFM student missionary is that I want to learn the language better. I know this will take conscious and consistent effort to talk a lot, and that is hard for me to do even in my native language. But, “In order to be good at [Thai], I have to be willing to start out bad.” And that’s really the key: being willing to start out. Even when I can’t speak very well, I have to be willing to use what I do know, and that’s how I’ll get better.
This applies to far more than just language learning. It applies to how I build relationships with the Thai people, how I teach cello, and really anything else in my life.
