One of my biggest fears is getting lost. I have gone into panic mode more than once when I made a wrong turn while driving. I have desperately driven in circles looking for a certain street or address. I have even stopped at gas stations to ask for directions!
Imagine going to the other side of the planet to the Papua New Guinean jungle where there are no roads. Travel to Ama is 200 miles by motor canoe through swamp and river with no direction signs or mileposts. When the water gets too shallow for the canoe to go any further, we will need to unload our supplies and carry them on our backs through the swamp. We will hike unmarked trails over mountains and across creeks with no bridges.
Nineteen years ago while I was a student missionary in PNG, I got lost with two other missionaries returning from a mountain climb not many miles from Ama. We made a wrong turn and ended up on a pig trail going a different direction. The tall trees prevented us from navigating by the sun. Thankfully we made it to the river, but we were miles from our canoe, and it was starting to get dark. We did not want to be out all night! We swam across a crocodile-infested oxbow lake looking for any clue of where we were. We wanted to find a village or people working in their gardens. We prayed for help from God. Soon a woman in a canoe found us and took us to her village. The next morning, we borrowed a canoe to get home.
This was a scary experience for me, but being spiritually lost is far worse! Please help send Edie and me to Ama so we can show them the way to eternal life!
