We have a special young lady on our team this year. Her name is Maryke Reynhardt, and she is our first student missionary. We have been praying for several years that God would bring us student missionaries in His timing. Maryke is a dedicated, hardworking young lady with a passion for Jesus. Her language skills are improving daily, and she is able to share more with others around her.
Maryke has overcome many challenges since her arrival in Cambodia. She lives with Kaak in a nearby Pnong village where there is no electricity. During rainy season, the roads are very bad. One day she arrived at school and asked to borrow a sarong from one of the other staff. Her legs were covered in mud from the motorcycle trip into town. Another week, not long after she arrived, we were visiting Kaak. As we were leaving, I accidentally ran over her puppy with our truck and killed it. Maryke is an animal lover, and this was quite traumatic for her.
Maryke has had moments of homesickness and loneliness as our only SM, but God has impressed her to stay a second year, and we are very grateful. In June, she will return home for a few months to fundraise. If you are interested in supporting Maryke’s ministry to the Pnong, please mark your donation “Pnong – SM Maryke.” We are still in need of two more student missionaries. If you are a young person and feel God’s call on your heart to serve overseas for a year or two, please contact AFM. Maybe you will get to meet Maryke in person!
