“Lord, Speak to Me”

“Lord, speak to me through Mark Finley tonight,” Philip prayed silently as we made our way into the auditorium during the Michigan Conference camp meeting. “Speak to me about what You would have us do.”
We had just been offered an almost irresistible pastoral position, and Philip was keenly tempted. Why were we planning to go halfway around the world anyway? Was God leading us in a different direction, or were we being distracted from our commitment to go as AFM missionaries? We had until the end of camp meeting to decide. We prayed earnestly all week that God would make it unmistakably clear if He wanted us to pastor. But the only thing we heard from the Lord that week was a most profound, peaceful silence.
As Mark Finley spoke that last Friday evening, however, the message was convicting: God was calling us to dare to take a risk for Him. As the pianist began the closing hymn, Mark Finley waved his hand to stop the music. He said he felt impressed to make a call for all those willing to allow God to do the impossible in their lives. The Spirit spoke to our hearts. “What will you dare to risk for Me and My kingdom?” We both went forward, Philip with tears streaming down his face. God had spoken loud and clear.
As if God was putting His stamp of approval on our decision, the following week we received a $5000 donation! And, in just three weeks, God brought in more than the 10 percent we needed to be introduced in Adventist Frontiers! “He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we ask or think.”
