Last February I was diagnosed with an aggressive variety of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. My sickness brought us back to the States for an early furlough. The night we arrived back in the States, the pastor and elders met to anoint me. At that time we didn’t have a diagnosis yet, but we wanted to put God first in whatever we were battling.
After we got the diagnosis, we took a three-pronged approach to fighting this disease. First and most important was prayer. We solicited prayers from you, our supporters, from family members and from friends around the world. Thanks so much to those of you who lifted us up! Second, I started chemotherapy treatments. Third, we joined forces with the staff at the Eden Valley Institute of Wellness. They gave me practical advice on how to change my diet to help battle the cancer cells growing in my body. Also, through the use of hot-water therapy, I was able to combat the cancer actively and strengthen my body in the down time when I wasn’t in the hospital receiving chemotherapy. After the chemotherapy treatments, I had an auto-stem-cell transplant.
By God’s grace I have finished all these treatments. This week, 90 days after my stem-cell transplant, I had a PET/CT scan to see if there were any signs of cancer in my body. Today the doctor told me the results were negative. I am cancer-free!
I continue to work on regaining my strength and endurance. My doctors are recommending that I not leave the States until nine months post-transplant to give my immune system time to rebuild. They will reevaluate me in May, 2017. If everything is still looking good, we will be cleared to return to our work in Cambodia.
Without a doubt, this has been the single most difficult period of my life. Next to God, my wife has been my rock. Thanks again for all you do to help support the Pnong Project, especially with your prayers. You gave me the strength I needed to make it through. Please continue to pray for my health and for the rest of our team on the Pnong Project.
