“I am old enough to decide what I will do, and I want to follow the truth,” Gigidi said quietly yet firmly to his older brother who was trying to dissuade him from coming to our church, “The Adventists teach the Bible truth, and that is where I want to be.”
Gigidi joined our church group after attending our Vacation Bible School program in the village last December. When we first moved to Kewa village more than five years ago, there were no young men attending our church. We didn’t have a church building, so we met for services under our house. The attendees were mostly women and small children. We prayed for men, young and old. Over time, God answered those prayers. Abilo, Busisi, Gigidi and Umina are four young men who now regularly attend our services. They assisted in the construction of the new church earlier this year, and they are always eager to help with anything else that needs to be done. We are encouraged as we watch them learn from the Bible and grow in commitment to God. They have started calling us Mom and Dad, a cultural way of showing respect and acceptance. They feel like part of the family now. We have adopted each other as family, but more importantly we are all adopted by God through Christ Jesus into His family.
