New Teammates

“The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest” (Luke 10:2).

With the buildings for the training center campus going up, Laurie and I have been thinking, planning and praying for the success of this mission endeavor. Laurie had been praying specifically for teammates with Bible-school experience to come and help us.

We praised God when we learned that a young couple from Brazil, Charles and Lara Cabral, had heard about our project needs and decided to come for a three-year term to work with our youth and start a Pathfinder program. Their work permit was just approved last week, and they recently completed their training with AFM. We are excited to meet Charles and Lara and see how God will use their efforts.

We were overjoyed again when we got the word that another couple had accepted the call to come to the Gogodala Project as career missionaries! Jason and Midori Sliger, with their three small children, have sensed God’s call to PNG. Jason, who was pastoring a two-church district in Michigan, previously worked for Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism (AFCOE), a well known Bible school. God has given him a real gift of preaching. I have watched videos of several of his sermons at youth gatherings around the world and was deeply inspired.

News of the Sligers’ decision came as Laurie was in transit to the States to help with our daughter Karin’s wedding preparations. (I would arrive a month later for the joyous occasion.) Laurie got to meet the Sligers, and they graciously invited us to come visit them at their home. So the week after the wedding, our family drove to the Sliger home and enjoyed meeting the family that will soon be our teammates. We fell in love with this godly family. Their three children will play important parts in their mission, just as Karin and Johanna did in ours. Please pray for the Sligers as they sell their home and raise a support team to launch them to the Gogodala Project.
