Pa Nit

We were not yet awake one Sabbath morning when Robbie’s telephone rang.

“Robbie, I’m downstairs in front of your gate!” said the person on the other end of the line. Then she hung up. In his foggy, half-asleep state, Robbie wasn’t sure if he had heard right. Quickly, he got up and looked out the window toward our front gate. Sure enough, there was Pa Nit coming through our gate.

I hurriedly dressed and went downstairs to greet her. She came inside and told me she wanted to help me get breakfast for our children. “You don’t have to stay down here,” she said. “You can go back upstairs and rest for a while. I’ll get some breakfast for you.”

Sleep was no longer possible for me, so I went upstairs and got ready for church. Our girls woke up and came downstairs. Pa Nit had fruit all cut up and ready for our breakfast, so we sat down and ate together with her. After I got the kids ready, we all headed to church together.

Pa Nit is a newly returned church member. Several years ago, she attended the Surin Adventist church when the former pastor and his wife were here. When they moved to Khon Kaen, she followed them there. I’m not sure how long she was there before returning to Surin, but when she came back she did not return to church.

Then one day Pa Nit ran into Christopher Sorensen at a vegetarian restaurant. They talked together, and she decided to start coming back to church. She has been attending regularly ever since and became a member by profession of faith last December.

Pa Nit loves to serve the Lord by serving others. She is always thinking of kind things to do, especially when it comes to making and serving food. She has a big heart and a kind spirit. She has recently started reading the Sabbath school mission story every week for church and likes having a part in the worship service.

Pa Nit is the only Christian in her family. Her sister, daughter and son-in-law are Northern Khmer Buddhists. Pa Nit also has twin granddaughters who are her pride and joy, and she talks about them continually. They attend the Catholic school in Surin, but she would like them to come and learn about Jesus at church on Sabbath. As of yet, they have not attended.

Please pray for Pa Nit’s family, that the Holy Spirit will move them to come and learn about Jesus. Please pray that her granddaughters will be allowed to come with her to church. She wants them to know the same joy she has found in Christ. Please pray that Pa Nit’s faith will deepen and that she will have the courage to share with her family what she knows about Jesus.

Thank you so much for your prayers and continued support for our project!
