“My true devotion will be found,” the song kept playing, “the day I lay my Isaac down.”
Lord, I’ve already given You my house, job, friends, family, and fears of the unknown. Now you want this fear, too?
One of my biggest fears was confronting me. What if my husband were to die in Thailand? He’s not sick. But Adoniram Judson lost two wives and three kids, J.N. Andrews lost a daughter, Hudson Taylor lost a wife and daughter, and then AFM missionary Brad Jolly recently died.
“Lay your Isaac down,” the phrase kept echoing in my head. I blinked back a few tears.
“He is Mine first, then yours. If you can’t surrender your husband to My hand, you are placing another god before Me. I am the one who created you, sustains you, and gives you happiness and life.”
“Okay, You are right. I’ll trust him to Your hand. Have Your own way.”
Peace flooded my heart. Immediately my fear was gone. I thought about God laying Jesus down. Jesus surrendered His position, family, home, His very life. By His strength, I can lay my “Isaac,”—my greatest treasure—down for Him.
Is the Lord calling you to do something for Him? What are your “Isaacs?” What fears are holding you back from full surrender? Nothing is too dear to give to Jesus who gave His all for you!

So beautiful! It’s simple… the only thing He asks of us is to submit to Him…… everything? Yes, everything. That sounds impossible… until you see what He gave up for us… His Isaac, the Son of God. What love!! It makes my “everything” seem so paltry… and when confronted with the reality of the cross, submitting everything to Him seems like the only option. Thank you SO much for this beautiful reminder!
