My children did not show up to see me again this time. I am used to it anyway,” said Jan, a father of three and now our good friend. We first met Jan at the homeless breakfast during our second week in Greenland. We go their once a week to visit with the people and to play music.

The sadness on Jan’s face cut deep as he shared his plight the first time we met him. But a few days ago, his sadness turned to joy when his son, Lowe, walked into the room. Seeing Jan kiss his 17-year-old repeatedly on his cheeks, telling him how much he loves him, I could not help but think of the story of the Honourable Father (mostly known as the story of the Prodigal Son).

After the 45 people at the homeless breakfast finished eating, I told Jan how his kissing Lowe reminded me of a story of a son who left home, went away and wasted his inheritance. Yet when he returned home, how his father welcomed him back warmly and kissed him, rejoicing over his son now back in his arms.
Jan then said to me, “My son has recently had an altercation with his mom, but I told him I will always be his father. I will kiss him, however old he gets. I will always love him. He is my son.”

As I continued sharing the story of the Honourable Father, I realized that Jan had never heard it before. Please pray for opportunities for Joe and me to share this story with Jan in its fullness. Please pray that Jan will have clarity of mind and know of the Father, who loves him dearly and gave His life in order to have Jan back in His arms.
