Planting Seeds

Sometimes (or more often usually) I find myself distracted by wanting to do something great. Often I find myself dreaming dreams of what will be rather than what is. This is especially the case when it comes to work for God! Sometimes though, this can lead to discouragement when reality seems so far from the dream. I believe that God can do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20) yet at the same time struggle in my humanity to not try and see how. One thing I am constantly reminded of throughout the years, and once again here in Thailand, is it is not my job to ask how! I simply need to trust and be faithful with what God has given me to do for today. Thankfully, He takes care of moving His mission forward in ways that we could never dream.

Currently, this means being faithful in planting seeds and not doubting that God will water them in His time. As I teach English lessons, I’m thankful for the small glimpses God gives me of where He is working. When ending our lesson by reading some more of the creation story, Rose* asked if that was the end. When I told her there was still more to the story, she asked to have the last pages and for a copy of the next Bible story as well. Praise God for her interest in knowing these stories! Another day, I met a new student, Tammy*, who was invited by her friend to class. As we ended the lesson with reading the Bible story, I sense an earnestness and focus as she looked over the meaning. When it came time to pray, I was so happy to see her face light up as she bowed her head. Clearly God is doing a work in her heart; may He continue to draw her closer to Him!

God knows with my limited sight I’m very thankful for these assurances He gives me that He is working. Although we may not have seen thousands baptised in a day yet here in Thailand, He is faithful and working mighty miracles in the simple seeds that are planted. God is watering these seeds and I believe they will bloom in His time. We must simply continue to be faithful co-workers with Him and plant the seed that He might ready it for harvest. I look forward to seeing the great miracle of conversion in my students’ lives and hope that you will pray with me for this.
