Prayers Answered for Irish Project

“For with God, nothing will be impossible” (Luke 1:37 NKJV). This text is a constant encouragement as issues arise in the field with our missionaries. It is wonderful to see how, with God, “All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28 NKJV).

For example, insurmountable problems in a creative-access country forced us to redeploy our two career missionary families to two different neighboring countries where they could continue their work with the same people group diaspora. They are now in the process of settling into their new locations and have already seen the Holy Spirit at work. Some of the local people are already visiting one of the families, and one man joins them for worship each Sabbath morning. Graham visited both families in July to see how things were going and rejoiced to see how much had been accomplished in their new host countries in just a few short weeks.

In Ireland, the Dyserts have served for 13 years and are hoping to return to the States soon on permanent return. However, new immigration laws in Ireland have made it more of a challenge to replace them. One day, during her prayer time, Mary Murphy felt impressed with a possible solution. She thought of a young couple from Europe who had received Bible studies from the Dyserts and been baptized a few years ago. Might they be interested in taking up the work? This couple were now living in a different city in Ireland and were active in their local congregation. We contacted them and had an interview. It seemed they would be a great fit. They were excited about missions, and, as European Union citizens, they have the right to live in Ireland without a visa. Further discussions took place at AFM headquarters, and it was agreed this couple could continue the ministry in the Serendipity center of influence the Dyserts opened four years ago. Pastor Lorance Johnson, a former AFM Field Director and now the district pastor for that area of Ireland, will provide spiritual support for the group that has been meeting in the Dyserts’ home. By the time you read this article, this young couple will have commenced their activities among the Irish people, and we will be bidding farewell to the Dyserts. We give thanks to the Dyserts for their many years of faithful service in an area of the world where many still need to hear the good news of the gospel.

We certainly serve an awesome God. As the good Word says, “Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. He who continually goes forth weeping, bearing seed for sowing, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him” (Ps. 126:5, 6 NKJV).

Thank you for your prayers that help turn challenges into victories. Please pray for this transition in Ireland and that we will find creative ways for additional families to serve as lights in the Emerald Isle.
