Life. It is an extremely precious thing! We have all experienced in some way how fragile life is. The cruel sting of death has affected each one of us. We know it is Jesus who gives us the breath of life and causes our hearts to beat continually. But much more than that, He came to give us eternal life! Jesus says in John 10:10-11, “The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd: the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.” We are so thankful to God that He gives us so much more than this temporal life!
But just for a moment, imagine you never knew that there was eternal life waiting for you. As far as you knew, there was absolutely no hope beyond the grave. What if, in your whole life, you never had a friend or a Bible to tell you of the blessed hope? No one ever told you that there is a God who loves you more than you could ever imagine—a God who died to save you from the sting of death.
The sad reality is that this is the condition of literally billions of people! Spiritually, they live in pitch-black darkness. They are completely lost without the Good Shepherd. This is why it is our hearts’ desire to be missionaries to the Palawano people. We want to share with them the light of God’s love and tell them that there is hope beyond the grave, if they will only have faith and believe. By God’s grace, we are willing to sacrifice everything to share this hope with them. In losing our life for His sake, we shall find it.
