Prophets Sin?

Imagine growing up with the mindset that prophets never sinned. There is a people group with this very belief. Now imagine you are from that people group and someone told you that Jesus Christ never sinned and is different from the other prophets. I am sure you would have questions or deny that Jesus is anything more than a prophet.

While on a trip visiting a project I supervise, I met a man and his family raised with this belief who desired to know more about Jesus. I sat in their home and, through translation, heard the testimony of a man, Nico, who, by worldly measures, has lived an incredible life.

As Nico opened up about his past and current situation, God showed me that He can still tear down the walls of separation between humanity and Himself. I was privileged to watch my team listen as Nico spoke and was encouraged to see them respond with loving-kindness, just as Jesus would. They shared the love of Christ in a way that Nico had probably never experienced before. Before we left, he turned and asked me to pray for him and his family. What a privilege that evening was.

Recently, my team told me that during one morning study time with the family, the topic came up about prophets and sin. When talking about Abraham, Nico’s wife Mary and eldest son acknowledged that Abraham sinned when he told Sarah to lie to the Pharaoh about being his sister, even though it was partly true. Nico was still under the assumption that prophets did not sin; thus, anything they did was ok. Talking it through, he came to understand and admit that Abraham had sinned.

With this knowledge, Nico will now be able to see a stark contrast between the prophets and Jesus. It is no wonder that so many people live their lives thinking that what they are doing is just fine. When they are taught that a prophet did not sin, yet they see prophets with multiple wives who lie, cheat or steal, it is no wonder they live as they do.

The eyes of this family are now opening to the truth of the Bible. They have accepted that Jesus is the Son of God and that He is their personal Lord and Savior. Please continue to pray for the walls of separation to be torn down worldwide and for the lies to be unveiled and understood so that others may experience the tremendous freedom of accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior.
