Religions

How much do we know about other religions? Islam is the world’s second-largest religion and the fastest-growing, but could we describe the five things a good Muslim must do to be saved? Do we know who Siddhartha Gautama is? What is the Bhagavad Gita?

I ask these questions about the largest religions of the world because sometimes it is hard to imagine how so many people around the world could still not know who Jesus is. However, it is easy for us to recognize how little we know, in general, about other religions despite our vast information resources.

The rest of the world is no different from us, except they have far fewer resources. Also, while our postmodern culture encourages study of different beliefs to “find truth,” many other cultures are vehemently opposed to such study. Just considering the study of another belief system can bring ridicule and persecution. In many cultures, religion is linked to cultural identity. Considering this, is it any wonder that so many have not heard the good news of Jesus Christ?

How do we cut through the indifference and resistance and show the importance of the gospel? The most effective way is to take the message to them, showing them who Jesus is and what it means to be a Christian and giving them the resources and opportunity to make personal decisions for Christ.

As we prepare to launch to Thailand, please pray that our lives will be such a witness that the Northern Khmer people will desire relationships with Christ.
