Removing Obstacles

Since calling us to serve Him among the Gogodala, God has graciously removed obstacles from our way. For example, we were recently wondering what to do with our pets before we leave. Neiti, our cat, is 16 years old and ornery. We love her, but she has never been friendly to outsiders. Laurie put an ad in the paper, and a nice young lady decided to try Neiti out. After three weeks, she brought Neiti back and told us it wasn’t working out.

It had been three and a half weeks since we’d run the ad, and no one else had come forward. As much as we hated the thought of it, we finally agreed that the most humane thing to do would be to put our beloved cat to sleep. Five minutes after our discussion, we were preparing to go out the door when the phone rang. It was a woman inquiring about our cat. My first thought was to politely inform her that the cat was not available. I wondered, though: was this call coincidence or providence? The timing was remarkable, so I talked to the lady and explained the cat’s temperament. She was still willing to give her a try.

When we delivered Neiti to the woman’s apartment, she immediately seemed at ease and quite comfortable about the move. Praise God! Jesus says in Matthew 10, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. . . . So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” God cares even about the little furry details in our lives.
