“Johanna, come play with us!” called out a girl with a bright, pretty smile. Each day she attended our Vacation Bible School programs in the village last December, and each day Johanna noticed her and how much she seemed to be enjoying herself. As she had opportunity, Johanna visited with her. At the end of VBS, she invited her to attend our church services.
In late January, some new visitors came to church one Sabbath morning, and Johanna’s friend from VBS was one of them. Sabina is 15 years old and in the eighth grade. Her life isn’t easy. Her father lives in Port Moresby, her mother lives in Balimo, and she doesn’t often see them. But she is always cheerful and helpful. Since her first visit to church, Sabina has attended faithfully each Sabbath, eagerly listening and writing down texts she hears. It wasn’t long before she was participating with others to provide special music and even leading out in song services. When we have work bees to help with our church building project or to cut grass on the mission property, Sabina is there doing her part. We are thankful for this young lady and her growing interest in God. Please pray that her hunger for spiritual things will continue to grow. We want this friendship to last for eternity.
