Seeds of Understanding

“Why did you choose Khon Kaen?” Busha asked me as we rode to the immigration office.

“This is where God wanted us to come,” I said simply. We pulled into the parking lot, and Busha commented that only months ago, people in this area had to make a two-hour trip to Laos for their immigration needs. “They built this office just in time for us!” I exclaimed.

“When you do good things, you get good things. I think Christians also believe something like that?” it was a question.

“The Bible says we will harvest what we plant,” I said, longing to put that statement in the context of God’s grace.

On our way home, Busha recalled the challenges of living abroad as a student and wondered aloud what gives a pastor’s family the strength to move to another country.

“We believe God has a purpose for our lives, and we want to be where He has called us,” I replied.

“I understand the words,” said Busha, “but I do not understand what it means. Like those who know the Buddhist teachings, but do not reach enlightenment.”

We both agreed that faith is something that must be experienced.—
