Stopping Storms

It was 7 p.m., and we were all set up for another evening of the outdoor evangelistic series we’re holding at a school. A storm was coming fast, and rain threatened at any moment. We could see where rain was already falling north of us, and it was coming south straight for us. It was very close. We had our generator and the projection screen set up, and music was already playing through the PA system.

Our prayer team gathered at the appointed place. Colette, Innocent, and I gathered in a small circle to ask God to stop the rain. Others also stopped working to pray. God had already stopped the rain the first day of the program. I prayed first, then Colette, then Innocent. As I opened my eyes, I saw that the wind had changed directions. “The rain will not come,” Colette and Innocent both stated with complete confidence. God was not going to let it rain, and that was that.

I headed down to do my health presentation. I watched the storm as it turned 90 degrees and went west. As I was talking, one raindrop landed on my forehead, but that was it. The evening progressed without problems, and several people in the audience made decisions for God.

The next day, I heard the rest of the story. Uli and Colette reported that, before we’d set up for the meeting, they had noticed a man standing at the site, looking up, and talking to the sky. He had most likely been calling the storm. Sensing the spiritual warfare brewing, Uli had begun praying that Satan’s plans would be thwarted.

Colette said she had felt the same stirrings, and her heart had started beating very fast. But when we’d prayed together, she’d heard a voice that told her it won’t rain. It said the threat had been allowed to test our faith to see whether we would pray about it. If we had not prayed, the voice told her, it would have rained until 9 p.m.

God has been blessing us very much. The neighborhood where we are holding the series is strongly Muslim and up till now has been very closed to outreach, so it is not surprising that Satan is not happy with our work. However, God is stronger then he, and he will not be able to do anything that God does not allow.
