Summer Training

Having gone through AFM training 20 years ago and again this summer, I can testify that a lot has changed. Over the past two decades, AFM has learned, grown and developed as an organization. Each success and failure has become a lesson for missionaries-in-training. Each class of trainees stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before us as we strive to be even better equipped to serve. These three months of training challenged us, and despite sleep deprivation, we rejoice in what God has taught us. Here is a taste of our summer:

• Learning to have difficult conversations with love
• Discovery Bible Studies with people of peace
• Surviving the Crucible weekend and all its teambuilding challenges
• Becoming sensitive to diverse worldviews and cultures
• Renewing our thinking (Romans 12:2) and changing mental models
• Basic medical training with pudding and chicken breasts. (Yuck!)
• Language-learning techniques. (Hindi for us)
• Strategic planning, culture shock and full reliance upon God
• Hermeneutics, homiletics, church history, pickle ball
• And much, much more.

As an added blessing, we have become forever friends with all the missionary trainees and their families. Isn’t God amazing?
We are extremely grateful for your prayers, your love for us, and your dedicated support of missions. Because of your faithfulness, we have a new issue to address: How soon can we leave?
Please pray that God will continue to equip us for His work, that we will have safe travels and that our family in the States will constantly be in His care.
