Admitting I have a need comes hard to me sometimes. I would rather manage on my own and not need any help. But I think God likes it when we recognize our needs. It’s easy for self-sufficiency to squeeze Him out. During our furlough, God has shown me that He uses our times of need to bless us, not to make life harder for us.
One time we were preparing to drive through a state where we didn’t know anybody, and we needed a place for our family of five to spend a night. I wanted to avoid spending money for a hotel, so I posted our need on social media. Through a common friend, we were able to stay with a wonderful family that ministered deeply to our whole family, putting out toys for our kids and praying with us and for us, in addition to serving us a delicious supper and breakfast. To me, it felt like God had set the table for us. We didn’t know these dear people, yet they opened up their home to us and treated us as friends.
Think how wonderful it will be when we do get the chance to sit down at that long table in Heaven that God Himself has set for His people, and we can finally meet our friends from every tribe, kindred, tongue and people. We may not know them now, but through common friends, they will be introduced to our Lord and invited to His feast.
