Thank You!

Mount Everest looms in the path of all prospective AFM missionaries, but—apologies to English teachers everywhere for the mixed metaphor—it is only a paper tiger. The daunting task of fundraising support keeps many from applying for the privilege of cooperating with God in taking the gospel to an unreached people. However, it is not what it seems. It is a faith-building experience and is not nearly as difficult as it at first appears. Ask any AFM missionary.

There are two reasons that the fundraising challenge is not as difficult as first expected. First, God loves the unreached. Jesus died for them. All heaven is waiting to assist anyone who will cooperate with heaven in this life-saving work. The second is the generosity of God’s people. Moses experienced this when he asked for an offering to build the tabernacle. Paul experienced it in 2 Corinthians 8. Throughout history, God’s people have given from their hearts—investing their treasures in heaven and funding the work of salvation.

Gratitude and humility fill our hearts as we consider our supporters’ enthusiasm, generosity and sacrifice. Thank you! Thank you! Your gifts and faith pledges have built up the sufficient energy to catapult us into the field and sustain us there. Your prayers are the wind in our sails and ballast in our keel—speeding us to victory and providing stability in choppy seas.

But without God, none of this would be possible. It is He who multiplies the five loaves and two fishes. To Him belongs all the honor and glory. There are some reading this whom God is calling to foreign missions. Perhaps fear of fundraising has you paralyzed in hesitancy. It is to you that I leave my favorite text. “Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it”—1 Thessalonians 5:24. Praise be to His name.
