The Answer

“If you could ask God one question, what would it be?”

This seemed like a strange question to have on a health seminar survey. It was obviously designed to uncover spiritual interest, and the young man we were visiting answered it without hesitation. “I would ask, ‘Am I a good person?’” He had already told us how Muslims believe that if they are good people they will go to heaven, and if they are bad people they will go to hell. We had found a sincere seeker for truth in this teenager from Iraq.

My heart was touched as I reflected on his question. How many times have I asked myself the same thing? Oh, the joy I discovered the day I found the Answer! “Hey, would you like to come over to the church and meet the other young people there?” I asked him.

Later, as he was leaving, I asked our new friend if he likes to read. “Oh, yes, I love to read!” he replied. I showed him a copy of The Great Controversy and told him a bit about it. The look in his eyes told me he would definitely read it.

After a meeting in the church that evening, I asked him if he remembered the question we had asked him earlier. “Yes,” he replied, “you know we Muslims see life as a test. We want to make sure we are good and pass the test on the Judgment Day. I think I am a good person, but I still wonder sometimes.”

We are praying that this intelligent and gifted young man will find the Answer to his question. Will you pray for him, too? —Jason Harral
