There are roughly 6,500 spoken languages in the world today. There are more than 70 languages spoken in Thailand. But there is one language that is understood by all—music.
Recently, Jared’s parents, Joe and Teresa, came to visit us here in Ubon. Grandma Teresa loves to read Bible stories to Justus. She also enjoys singing songs to Justus and Jon Marc.
One day, Grandma Teresa was singing The B-I-B-L-E to Justus as Pi Tan, our housekeeper and nanny, held him. “The B-I-B-L-E. Yes that’s the book for me. I stand alone on the word of God, the B-I-B-L-E.”
Pi Tan knows only a few words in English, so Grandma Teresa got Justus’ children’s Bible and showed Pi Tan how to spell the word Bible in English.
The next morning when Grandpa Joe came downstairs, he heard Pi Tan singing. When he went into the living room, he realized that Pi Tan was trying to sing The B-I-B-L-E to Justus in English.
It was a very special moment to see God speaking through this simple song to Pi Tan. We may not be able to speak Thai very well yet, but we know God wants to use our family to communicate with Thai Buddhist people. Please continue to pray that God will use whatever language necessary to speak through us.
