A few months ago, our district pastor conducted a 10-day evangelistic campaign in the schoolyard of a village with no Adventist presence about 25 miles away. We assigned our youngest team member, Gauthier, to assist and help with organization, visiting, logistics and wherever else help was needed. This was a good opportunity for him to gain some experience and for us to support the Benin conference, which had organized the campaign. We kept in touch with Gauthier throughout the campaign. Here are some snapshots from his reports.
“The campaign is going very well, praise the Lord. A few days ago we had some technical problems. Our projector and some other equipment got fried. We panicked and got discouraged, but God provided help. People from another denomination volunteered to let us use their loudspeaker system and whatever else we needed to continue. Night after night, people come to listen to the sermons. Tonight, we will talk about the Sabbath. This is a very important topic in this village since people are confused about the different churches and denominations.”
The next day, he wrote:
“Last night’s presentation was awesome. God really used His servant in a powerful way. A pastor from another denomination attended, probably with some intention to object and, unfortunately, not letting the Holy Spirit convict him of the truth. He became very interested and promised to come back tonight since the topic will be further developed.”
The following day, Gauthier reported:
“Last night’s presentation was about the origin of Sunday worship. The pastor from this other denomination was attending again, and at the end of the talk, he seemed convinced that the Sabbath was the day of worship according to the Bible. But he felt caught between this conviction and the position he holds in his church. At the end, he exclaimed in desperation: ‘So even if we worship God on Sunday, we will nonetheless miss out on heaven?’”
We don’t know what decision this pastor will make, but we are confident that the Holy Spirit will continue to work on his heart. At the end of the campaign, seven people were baptized.
Although our primary target audience is unreached people, it regularly happens that members and even pastors of other denominations are influenced and touched by our activities. Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit would convict them and that they would have the courage to live up to the truth they discover.
