The Gecko

Slowly, stealthily, the gecko crept forward. It is not often that we see the large tokay gecko, though his loud call rings out on the night air periodically. Now as we sat at our table eating pomelo, he suddenly appeared on the outside of the window. The clinging pads on his toes and the smoothness of his belly were clearly visible as he crept toward his prey, a moth attracted by the light. Inch by inch he slowly closed the gap until only about four inches remained between him and his prey. He paused for several seconds. The moth fluttered slightly, and instantly he was on it, firmly grasping it in his mouth. Then he moved toward the edge of the window and vanished from view.

How like the devil, I thought. Whenever the light attracts someone to Christ, the enemy begins stalking them. As he gets closer, they may flutter in the joy of their new discoveries, but with a quick rush the devil seeks to secure his prey. We need to be ever on the lookout to support those who are being attracted to God’s light. May our prayers daily ascend to the Father for the protection of those called to be His own, for He is able to deliver.
