After two months temporarily serving as a missionary at another project, I returned to the Maghreb Project. I was eager to go back and see my friends from the English course again (see the October 2025 issue). I had prepared a crocheted keychain and a message written in their native language to give them as a gift.
Unfortunately, I did not find them at the language school. I messaged everyone and tried to arrange a meeting, but nothing worked out. I was sad and began to question God about whether I was really working the right way, whether I was actually able to witness about Him to my classmates during classes. Even though I could no longer connect with my friends in person, I continued to pray for them.
Months passed, and finally the time came to return to Brazil. My service time had ended, and I needed to finish my nursing degree.
Almost two months after my return to Brazil, one of the friends I made in that intensive 15-day English course sent me a message on Instagram. Amanda (name changed for security) started asking questions about Christian fasting: how Christians fast, for how many days, and if it was similar to the Ramadan fast. I answered all her questions, as she demonstrated genuine curiosity.
Then she asked me a question that filled my heart with joy:
“Would you mind telling me more about your religion? I want to know more about what you believe.”
I was deeply happy. Perhaps, for those reading this, it seems commonplace, but for me, it was a true miracle. In the Muslim context, it is very rare for someone to take the initiative to ask to learn more about Jesus and the Christian faith.
Since then, I have shared with her who Jesus is and the wonderful hope we find in Him.
Through Amanda, God showed me that I was truly on the right path and that the gospel was being shared, even when I could not see the fruits. I learned that the greatest testimony I can give is for others to see Jesus through the life I live. Often, God continues to work in people’s hearts even after our time of service in that place has ended.
