The Kiki Scramble

God had previously made it clear to Teddy and me that we were to take Sophia’s cat, Kiki, to Croatia. Traveling with a cat is no easy task, especially when you want to take her out of the country. Aside from all the required vaccines and a microchip, she needed the proper paperwork. Everything was in order. The vet office now had to send the papers to the USDA for certification and return them to us. I chose to have them sent to my aunt in Seattle, as we would be flying out of the Seattle-Tacoma airport. We had to fly within 10 days of issuance for the certificate to be valid.

We arrived in Seattle on Sunday, September 14. Our flight was scheduled to leave the next day. However, the letter had not yet arrived. We were slightly panicked, struggling to push out fear and choose faith. That night, Sophia prayed, “Dear Jesus, please help the papers to arrive before 10:00 a.m. so our whole family can fly together to Croatia. Amen.”

The next morning, Teddy and I were in a scramble. We called the vet for a tracking number. We called FedEx. The package was out for delivery later that day. I explained to the customer service representative that we were scheduled to fly out soon, and we could not leave without those papers. She called the driver, then called me back. “The package will be delivered by 10:00 a.m.,” she said. We had the package in hand at 9:40 a.m.!

It was not until we were settled on the flight that her words sank in, and I remembered Sophia’s prayer.

Now I am delighted to report that we have made it—our entire family, including Kiki the cat, is in Zagreb, Croatia. Thank you to all of you who have been a part of this journey. We cannot wait to share how God writes the next chapter of our lives.
