The Offering Note

I hadn’t seen or heard from Moss for several months, so I was surprised to get to speak with him on the phone. I had called one of our local Adventist college students, Gabriel, one Friday night, and midway through our conversation, he gave the phone to his friend Moss so he could talk with me. Moss came to church several times last year with Gabriel, but then he left the university last fall, and we hadn’t seen him since. I was glad to hear that he was back in school and even more excited when he told me he would be in church the next day!

True to his word, Moss showed up for church with Gabriel, and I had a nice conversation with him after the service. He told me he had missed us all very much, and he was glad to be back. Before we parted, I gave him Thai translations of Steps to Christ and The Great Controversy. He said that he would read them carefully.

Neither Moss nor Gabriel showed up the next Sabbath, but the Sabbath after that Gabriel came. I asked him how Moss was doing, and he told me Moss had been too busy to come, but he had sent an offering with Gabriel. The next day while my wife and Shannon Sorensen were counting the tithes and offerings, they found the following note written by Moss:

Dear SDA Church of Khon Kaen:
I’m very sorry that I am not able to go to church lately. Right now I’m pursuing my dream, and it consumes all of my time. But I still want to donate to your church (even though it’s a small amount because I am just a poor college student) because it’s a great place to gather people around. I begged Gabriel to deliver this letter to the one in charge of the funding and charity of the church. I’ll surely be there when everything is done.
I miss all of you,
Moss

Please keep Moss and our other college students in your prayers as we seek to disciple and grow and them in Christ.
