There is a beautiful and familiar promise in Psalm 34:7: “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him and delivers them.” Once again, we have seen this promise fulfilled in our lives.
One evening a month or so ago, Neil went out to our chicken shed to shut the door. The chicken shed is about 100 feet from our house. Since it was dark, Neil was wearing his headlamp, as we never know what might be creeping through our yard at night. As Neil walked through the yard, his headlamp beam illuminated something about 20 feet in front of him. It looked like a thick branch, but it was moving in the direction of the chicken shed. Neil moved closer and saw to his surprise that it was a large snake. Instead of slithering, it was inching forward like a caterpillar. Neil kept his headlamp beam on it and called for our guard who came running with a stick and killed it.
Neil brought the body for Clay and Hadassah to see. He pried the mouth open with two sticks and showed us the fangs. They were huge! Later, we were able to identify the snake as a puff adder, the species responsible for most snakebite deaths in sub-Saharan Africa. We are so thankful for God’s protection and for His perfect timing in bringing Neil to just the right place at the right time to be able to see the snake. Thanks so much for your continued prayers for us and for our project.
