The Same Measure

“I had the letter written and ready to send. I was not going to be able to fulfill my monthly pledge to your project.”

Cindi and I listened with rapt attention as one of our donors shared the story of how she was struggling to keep the pledge she had made to our project. When one of the churches that pays her to play the organ on Sundays had canceled her contract, she didn’t see how she could afford the monthly commitment she had made to us. However, before she was able to mail the letter ending her pledge, she received her check from the Catholic church she also plays for and discovered that her pay had been raised by almost the exact amount of her pledge! Seeing this clear evidence of the Lord’s providence, she joyously threw away the unsent letter. “That church has no idea they are supporting your mission project,” she told us with a chuckle.

Cindi and I often pray that the Lord will bless our donors. We know that those who give to us are doing so sacrificially, and we want them to experience God’s richest blessings. Time and time again, we have seen Him answer this prayer. Maybe you support a missionary project and at times are tempted to discontinue your giving. It is our prayer that the Lord will bless you just as richly as He did our friend.

“Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38).
