As I looked out the window of condo number six at the AFM center, I saw autumn leaves falling randomly from the maple trees. One by one they covered the pickle ball court in patches of brown, red, yellow and gold. The voice of a Mongolian missionary trainee echoed in my mind: “Ready?” and then he would launch another impossible-to-return serve.
Yes, our AFM training is over, and the extra month we stayed to do fundraising went by faster than the speed of light. We had divine appointments in the four churches we visited and met many wonderful people. We travelled more than 5,000 miles across the United States.
It’s amazing to see God working in our lives. Some days we can only stand in awe and thank Jesus for letting us be part of the miracles He performs each day. We finally got all our funds raised, and we are scheduled to launch in January 2016. Stuffing all the experiences we gathered these last four months into a couple of suitcases is a mammoth task. It was hard to say goodbye to all the wonderful staff members at the AFM office.
The road ahead seems impossible when we think of all the work we have to do at home before we leave for Mesopotamia. From renovating our house to visiting more churches and saying our goodbyes to visiting as many family members as humanly possible in such a short time, we look forward to all the new experiences and people we are about to meet. Philippians 4:13 suddenly comes to our minds: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” In His strength we can face whatever might come our way in the months ahead.
