Unity is Strength

Jesus sought to teach His disciples the truth that, in God’s kingdom, there are no territorial lines, no caste, no aristocracy; that they must go to all nations, bringing the message of the Savior’s love. The book of Acts reveals a church full of different people from diverse backgrounds, nationalities, tribes and ethnic groups. This made it a unique church, with all these different personalities and characters building up and solidifying a foundation for the diverse Church of today. When Christians realize that there is no segregation, no culture and no tradition in Christianity, it strengthens them and breeds growth and development in the church.

Our little church recently has been going through some financial difficulties. This struggle with finances led our group to seek to facilitate programs that would bring income to the church. One of the things they decided on was a garden project to grow and sell peanuts. Since seed peanuts are so expensive, they decided that each church member would contribute a portion of what was needed. The money was raised in two days, and seed peanuts were purchased. One church member donated use of her field to grow the peanut crop. One Sunday, the members gathered at the field and planted peanuts. They also shared a meal together.

What amazed me most was to witness the unity of everyone working together. If all churches and members could work together like this to propagate the Gospel, Christ’s return would be greatly hastened. That is why Christ said, “the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few. So let us pray to the Father to increase the laborers.” As we press on, let us pray for more laborers.
