Urgency

Do you remember the earthquake in Pakistan? Aid organizations were scrambling to get enough winterized tents and blankets before winter. Unnumbered homeless would freeze if immediate help wasn’t brought.

I sat reading the email appealing for emergency financial help. Urgency gripped my heart—people were freezing! I sighed. If only we could help! Things were extremely tight for us. We needed the Lord to provide for our needs! Yet here we were, in a warm house with food and clothing and our family safe and sound. Then the Lord reminded me of a verse I had read for my devotions: “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given” (Prov.19:17).

Questions tumbled through my mind. Would God really pay us back? Did I really believe this promise? As I wrestled with these questions, God spoke to my heart. I had no reason in the world not to help out! We had just received our paycheck, so I discussed it with Greg. We claimed this promise and sent a contribution.

Not long after this, things began to happen. We paid a couple of bills, and the checks were promptly returned with a note saying our account was paid in full! Next, we received an unexpected gift from a friend who felt impressed that we needed it! God not only paid back what we gave, He tripled it! Seeing God do this time and again has convinced us that it is impossible to outgive God.

Friends, there are people slipping into eternal darkness right now! The dire urgency of this situation is as real as the dying victims of natural disasters. The Cham are dying without knowledge of Jesus. Will you take God at His word and join us in reaching the Cham?
