When I Am Weak, He Is Strong

“Praise God from Whom all blessings flow” has been the theme of our lives recently. By the time you read this, we will be in AFM missionary training in Berrien Springs, Michigan!

A little over a year ago, we started our AFM journey toward mission work in Cambodia. We went to orientation without knowing what the outcome would be or how the following year would go. We didn’t know a thing about fundraising and had much to learn. Here we are now with hundreds of new friends and countless memories of blessings from God. We couldn’t have done it without your prayers and support, and without the faithful provision of our loving God.

This journey has stretched our faith and shown us that God does care for our needs, and He always provides. I often question my abilities and feel too weak to represent Christ to the Cambodians. I wonder if I’m going to reflect Him effectively, and if I can be selfless enough. But then I remember Paul, a missionary I truly admire. He expressed very similar doubts, yet he did not dwell on his insufficiency but courageously claimed the promises of God. “‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Cor. 12:9, 10).

I am claiming this promise throughout this season of transition and its many lasts—last time attending our home church, last time seeing friends, last time celebrating holidays in the States. Pretty soon, we will experience our season of firsts in Cambodia! And with the boldness of Paul, we will gladly go.
