My name is Matheus Dias. I am eight years old, and I live in Guinea-Bissau. I have two sisters, Manuela, who is five, and Esther, who is twenty-three. Esther does not live here with us. She is already an adult and lives in Brazil, where she studies and works. I think this is bad because I can only see Esther once a year, and I miss her so much. I even cry sometimes. She has a boyfriend, and they are getting married in 2026. My father said that we are going to their wedding, and I am anxious because I think 2026 is too far away; it will take too long.

I wish Esther would come live here with us, or that we would go back to Brazil to be close to her. But we are missionaries, and so we stay here to talk about Jesus to people who do not know that He is our Savior. There are a lot of Muslims at my school, and my dad says that I have to be like Jesus so that they can get to know Him through me. I find that difficult because I am still a child.

Some days I like Guinea-Bissau, but other days I don’t. I like going to the hotel pool and going to the beach on Rubani Island. I also like Sundays because my dad takes us to ride our bikes in the square, and then we have ice cream. We have a friend named Levi who always comes to our house and goes with us to the square. He’s Guinean, but my parents say that Levi is their borrowed son, so I think Proverbs 18:24 means that we are brothers.

Well, that is it. I told you a little about my story here in Guinea-Bissau, and I hope you understand what I wrote. Oh, I wrote the text in Portuguese, and my dad translated it into English. He knows a little English and also uses Google Translate.

Goodbye,
Matheus

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3).
