Will you be My friend?

One of the things I enjoy most is learning about God. I find that He lets us know about His love in ways we can comprehend.

While learning Thai to prepare for my mission trip, I came across a word in Thai:

นะ (ná).

Thais use this word at the end of a question or sentence to soften a statement, to convey emotion, express reassurance, suggesting or asking politely. After reading through how people use this word in Thai culture, I thought to myself: God also uses this word to speak to us.

God’s way is never to coerce. Instead, He loves us with tender love. God loves to connect with us, but He does it from a friendly standpoint. He doesn’t force, He kindly suggests.

When God invites you to a relationship with Him, He is not abrupt, but approachable. When He invites you to get to know Him more, to show love to others, to do things His way and not yours, He doesn’t use fear, He wants you to know what His opinion is, so He gently makes you a warm request full of emotion and offers you His reassurance.

This is the way I see that Jesus approached little children. I clearly see God drawing our attention to Him this same way.

Today, God asks you: Will you be My friend นะ (ná)?

Who would have thought that by learning Thai I would be able to think of God in a new way?
