Jonathan & Veronica Nicholaides

Career Missionaries since 2013, serving the Hill Tribes of Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia. They previously served among the Pnong.

A little more than eight years ago, God called the Nicholaides family to work for Him in the Asian country of Cambodia. After God provided the funding they needed, Jonathan and Veronica boarded an airplane with their four children, Hannah, Bethany, Enoch and Josiah. For the first four years, they served with the Great River People.

Previously living in the province of Mondulkiri, a lovely mountainous area on the northeastern side of Cambodia, they moved to the Hill Tribe people group in Northeastern Cambodia.

The Hill Tribe people are animists who live in fear and bondage to the spirits, and yet they worship them at the same time. At weddings, funerals, planting time, harvest time, or any other momentous occasion, they perform rituals, such as animal sacrifices, in an effort to appease the spirits and avoid calamity. It is sad to see people living in fear. Those who have accepted Jesus don’t suddenly become rich and have easy lives, but their newfound joy and peace are a powerful witness to their families and communities.

The whole family is involved in friendship evangelism, connecting all the people around, including neighbors, school staff, and villagers to develop relationships that give local people opportunities to see Christ’s love. The local school staff are a wonderful group of dedicated Christians who want to share Jesus in the community, too. We are privileged to witness the love and freedom that people who once lived in darkness experience through their newfound faith in Jesus.

Business or Ministry . . . or Both?

Please pray that God will lead in this relationship and how we work with Augustus to provide a living example of this ministry model.

Seeing Eye-to-Eye

Indeed, our understanding of what God wants us to do is virtually the same. Of course, we will have to develop the details, but we expect God to continue to show us the next steps as we follow the first ones He gives us.

The Hill Tribe People of Ratanakiri

Later, when Jonathan told me about the mission’s invitation to start a new project in Ratanakiri province, I was very surprised. We had felt drawn to this area since our first visit. And just two weeks earlier, I had begun praying for God to open a way for us to work with dedicated young people and to apprentice them in mission service, a calling we have sensed building over several years. Could this be God’s answer to that prayer?

Thank You for Listening

I really admire those who not only pray and trust God but who hear His promptings and obey. To all those who hear God’s voice in your lives and obey, thank you for listening!
