He Knows Best

As I walked onto the camp-meeting grounds I prayed, “Dear Father in Heaven, You know what weather will be the best for helping people choose to commit themselves to You this week. Please send us that weather. Amen.”

A few days into camp meeting, the radar showed a long line of storms—some of them very severe—marching up the map toward us. Immediately I began praying, “Dear Lord, there are storms coming. You know that could mean real trouble . . .” I began telling God that He should stop or re-direct the storms. Then suddenly I realized that in my first prayer, I had asked for Him to send what He knows to be best. Now, I was telling Him to send what I thought was best. Immediately I asked God to forgive my selfish prayer and thanked Him for answering my first prayer.

All through the night, a gentle rain fell on our tents, dampening the dust and watering the earth, reminding me of the Holy Spirit and God’s desire to wash away our sin and fill us with His love.

As I think about our upcoming launch to the Ama people, I realize how important it is for me to follow this lesson. It could be very easy for me to tell God what to do. Please pray that I will remember to put everything into God’s hands, and leave it there.
