To successfully navigate the streets in search of food, shelter, transport—and hopefully a few new friendships—I am currently devoting my time to language learning. In the meantime, I almost certainly confuse some Czech locals and, with any luck, provide a bit of entertainment along the way.
We have also been learning more about Czech culture. One of our favorite discoveries is the tradition of “name days.” Most calendar days are assigned specific first names. When your name’s day comes around (for example, Hugo is April 1), friends and family celebrate you with well-wishes, small gifts, flowers or treats—like a mini birthday sprinkled into the year.
As we travel around the country, saying goodbye to friends, family and familiar places, I often find myself wondering what Abram must have felt when he set out, not fully knowing what lay ahead.
Our biggest news? We are expecting another child. When we told Joshua (who is five), he thoughtfully replied, “I don’t know how we can have babies so quickly every time.” That gave us a good laugh. By the time you read this, we should be nearing the halfway mark of the pregnancy, and we cannot wait to share more about this little miracle as we learn more ourselves.
The 90-day visa waiting period should also be wrapping up soon, and we are full of anticipation for what is ahead. Please pray with us—for the people of Czechia and for our hearts as we prepare to serve them. We are deeply grateful to be part of this body of believers and thankful for the role each of you has played in this journey.
Keep the faith, brothers and sisters.
