As most of you know, we had to return to South Africa to apply for our Czech visas. Although the process took much longer than expected, God used this delay to teach us some important lessons.

One of the biggest blessings during this time was the opportunity to stay on a game farm in Limpopo. Near our house was a community of Setswana workers and their families. As we spent time with them and received their help around the house, they touched us with their kindness, friendliness and thankfulness.

Growing up in South Africa, with its history of Apartheid, exposed me to racism and prejudice from a young age. Even after Apartheid ended, there were still divisions and hurt feelings between different people groups. These attitudes influenced the way I saw others. While staying on the farm, God reminded me of how He had to change my heart and free me from those wrong attitudes when I first gave my life to Him.

As we got to know this community better, God placed a burden on our hearts to reach out to them. Thinking about our different cultures and backgrounds reminded me of the story of the Syrophoenician woman who came to Jesus asking Him to heal her daughter. Through that experience, Jesus taught His disciples that God’s love is for everyone. There is no place for prejudice in His kingdom.

We were blessed to minister to this community, to hold Bible studies and to build meaningful friendships during the three weeks we stayed there. It reminded us that the gospel is for all people, regardless of race, culture, social status or past. It also made us even more excited as we prepare for ministry in the Czech Republic, where God is calling us to reach people from many different backgrounds.

Our prayer is that God will help us be humble and willing to serve whoever He brings into our lives, seeing each person as someone precious for whom Christ gave His life.
