Ilissa was overjoyed to meet a missionary and eager to tell me the role she plays in world missions. “I cannot go overseas, so I pray and send as much money as I can to support our Adventist school on the island of Yap in Micronesia. Also, I pray daily for the two AFM missionary families who are going to replace the Lello family after John died in that terrible accident. I pray for their health and protection, that Satan will not be allowed to touch their bodies and that God will work through them and bless their work.”
Ilissa didn’t yet know who I was, but her words spoke courage to my heart. A complete stranger was praying these blessings for me and my family daily! It was also a powerful reminder to me of why AFM asks their missionaries to meet their supporters, raise funds and sign people up for Adventist Frontiers magazine.
“I want to introduce myself,” I said to Ilissa. “I am Keren, one of the missionaries you have been praying for!”
She read my name tag and then looked at my face, carefully comparing it to the magazine photo in her mind. “It is you!” she exclaimed as she basked in the awe of the blessing God had just sent to her. “I have been praying for you for so long, but I never even thought I would get to meet you. This is truly a wonderful day.”
Do you long to do mission work but are unable to go overseas? I encourage you to be like Ilissa. Adopt a project or missionary, read their articles, pray for them daily, and send money as you are blessed, making a pledge if you are able to do so. God has blessings in store for you.
