I admit it, I love listening to stories. I’m the mom Uncle Dan and Aunt Sue invite to listen on Your Story Hour. My daughters share my love for stories, so we often play story CDs when traveling.
Lately, I have gained a new appreciation for music, too. We recently bought a scripture song CD and listened through it on the way home. Music filled our home the next day as our three-year-old son sang several of the scripture songs from memory, having heard them only once. We played it again the next time we were in the car. Now our home was filled with the chorus of all our children. They sang one song with extra enthusiasm: “The Lord hath done great things for us. The Lord hath done great things for us. The Lord hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad!” After we sang this song for worship one morning, Adam asked the girls to think about something great the Lord had done for them and write a short story about it. Here’s our daughter’s story:
“We were all packed up and ready to go when my dad realized someone had left the inside lights of the truck on. So he turned them off and tried to start the motor. Oh no—it was not going to start. Our battery was dead. A few minutes before, my dad had been working on the truck. And when he opened our hood to jump the battery, he found that he had left the oil cap off. My dad was now glad we had left the lights on. He even thanked us kids! God really was good to us because we were supposed be gone the day before, but if we had left, no one would have been there to help us. But today our grandma and grandpa were there to help us get the truck going. Even when things seem to go wrong the Lord can turn them into great things!”
Needless to say, I’m enjoying the blessing of good music more than ever!
