Have you ever wanted to walk the dusty paths around Capernaum or stroll through the peaceful groves of Gethsemane? I have thought how special it would be to walk the same roads Jesus walked and breathe the same air He did. Though we are nowhere near the place where Jesus lived out His life on earth, there are moments when I almost feel like I do live there.
A few weeks ago we made a visit to “our” village. While we were there, Josh took us visiting. As we walked from house to house interacting with people, listening to them tell us about their lives, and hearing their gratitude for the missionaries who have gone before us, I couldn’t help but feel like I was taking a stroll back in time with the Greatest Missionary of all.
Two days later while I was reading, I came across this statement: “But we need not go to Nazareth, to Capernaum, or to Bethany, in order to walk in the steps of Jesus. We shall find His footprints beside the sickbed, in the hovels of poverty, in the crowded alleys of the great cities, and in every place where there are human hearts in need of consolation” (The Ministry of Healing, p. 105).
If you would like to walk were Jesus walked, step out of your comfort zone. Serve the poor in your neighborhood, take a mission trip, dedicate a year to service overseas, become a career missionary. I challenge you to ask God were He wants you and to walk with Him there.
